Joe Biden is planning to announce his presidency soon but his advisors are concerned that he is not diverse enough to win the Democratic primary as is. So they are thinking that Stacey Abrams as Biden’s running mate could fix the diversity issue.
“Advisers for former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign-in-waiting are debating whether to name failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams as his running mate, a Thursday report says.”
“Abrams’ failed bid for the governor of Georgia against Republican Brian Kemp garnered her national attention. Despite losing to Kemp 50.2 percent to 48.8 percent, Abrams still refuses to concede the race, accusing her opponent of suppressing black voters to win what was one of the 2018 midterm elections’ most-watched races.”
Abrams has met with many prominent Dems and she is still up in the air about what her future holds.
“She’s huddled with Sen. Cory Booker in Newark, grabbed lunch with Sen. Kamala Harris in Washington and dined with Sen. Elizabeth Warren in Atlanta. Before her Biden meeting on Thursday, she had breakfast with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
“I am going to run for something. And I will tell you in April. But everything is on the table. I’m not being coy,” she said. “This is hard. When you spend two years focusing on one thing it’s not easy to turn to something else.”
“Biden, 76, could be vulnerable on race once he announces his candidacy. Democratic voters seem hungry for more progressive leaders, and many women and minority candidates have already jumped into the race ahead of him. Those candidates include Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., as well as Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, and tech executive Andrew Yang.
Biden currently leads those candidates by a wide margin before even entering the race. But Biden’s past positions on race could get more scrutiny once he announces a run, even though he has tried to play up his civil rights record.”
Democrats believe Biden could beat Trump in the 2020 elections. I think that will be a big factor in the upcoming Democratic primary, how they are perceived in a debate against Trump. Trump destroyed Crooked Hillary, with the “Lock her up” chant and even the email server scandal. It will be interesting to see the mudslinging as we get closer to 2020. Which Dem will get the honor of facing off against Trump?
