Governor Brown Sheepishly Admits Trump Was Right About Wildfires

The Californian Wildfires this year are the worst on record. The Dems were originally all blaming Trump for the wildfires, claiming this was due to climate change. But it seems someone was able to knock some sense into Governor Jerry Brown. He finally is realizing that the wildfires are largely due to lack of forest maintenance.

Faced with the worst summer fire season in 10 years, Gov. Jerry Brown is proposing broad new changes to California’s logging rules that would allow landowners to cut larger trees and build temporary roads without obtaining a permit as a way to thin more forests across the state.”

Under Brown’s proposal, private landowners would be able to cut trees up to 36 inches in diameter — up from the current 26 inches — on property 300 acres or less without getting a timber harvest permit from the state, as long as their purpose was to thin forests to reduce fire risk. They also would be able to build roads of up to 600 feet long without getting a permit, as long as they repaired and replanted them.”

Environmentalists are concerned that this could lead to loggers cutting down redwoods that are not usually affected by fires. But they do see the need as the tree and brush density is too high.

This proposal comes after Trump called out California for not properly maintaining the forests.

“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”

At the time Brown’s office just brushed off Trump’ s comment.

“Brown’s spokesman, Evan Westrup, reacting to Trump in a statement, said, “Our focus is on the Californians impacted by these fires and the first responders and firefighters working around the clock to save lives and property — not on the president’s inane, uninformed tweets.”

I’d say Trump got the last laugh on this one, but lives and homes have been lost. They should have been more concerned about their residence than wildlife and trees.
